Duisende mense het vandag by die Voortrekkermonument in Pretoria saamgetrek om hulle steun vir die behoud van Pretoria se naam te toon. Dié skare het ʼn Afrikaanse musiekfees by die monument bygewoon wat deur AfriForum ter behoud van die stad se naam gereël is.

Pretoria se 159ste verjaarsdag en die feit dat AfriForum nou meer as 100 000 lede het, is ook tydens die geleentheid gevier. Toegang tot die fees was gratis.

Volgens Kallie Kriel, uitvoerende hoof van AfriForum, toon die feit dat letterlik duisende mense by die Voortrekkermonument opgedaag het, dat mense baie sterk oor die stad se naam voel en dat hulle nie gediend is met hernude pogings om Pretoria se naam te verander nie. “As die minister van kuns en kultuur, Nathi Mthethwa, die publiek se siening oor die naamkwessie ernstig opneem, is daar geen manier wat Pretoria se naam ná vandag se byeenkoms kan verander nie,” het Kriel bygevoeg.

Then, the accident. The bottle of liquid exploded in his hands. The force was so immense, that it bellowed all the way to little Pippie, still playing on the lawn nearby. Dad's hands were badly burnt, but it was Pippie who bore the brunt of the flames. She sustained 80% 3rd degree burns all over her angelic little face and body. It was a miracle that she survived. In fact, doctors at the Garden City Clinic burns unit in Brixton, Johannesburg say they've never seen a burn patient, that badly burnt and that young, survive. Pippie is still in that hospital, where she is slowly healing, with her mom, Anice constantly by her side and Dad, Erwin, commuting between the hospital and their home. This little girl has a long road ahead of her and the family needs all the support they can get.
